- Customers pay your garage through Stripe Connect — the same secure payment platform used by millions of businesses. MOTDesk never holds customer card details.
- Yes. Online payments go to your connected Stripe account and payout to your bank. MOTDesk automatically deducts its platform fee from each online payment processed through MOTDesk.
- MOTDesk charges 1.5% on online payments only (bookings, invoices and repair links). Stripe also charges its own card processing fee — typically ~1.5% + 20p per UK card payment, set by Stripe on your Connect account. MOTDesk does not add a markup on Stripe fees.
- MOTDesk Pro includes email reminders. SMS texts are 9p each on your monthly Stripe invoice — there is no free SMS allowance. SMS billing can be turned off in your Billing centre if you prefer email-only reminders. We recommend keeping SMS reminders on. Customers genuinely love the texts — they cut no-shows, make day-to-day running smoother, and keep people coming back to your garage.
- Yes. Cash, bank transfer and card machine payments taken outside MOTDesk have no MOTDesk platform fee and no Stripe processing through MOTDesk.
- Stripe Connect gives you PCI-compliant card handling, fraud tools, dispute management and fast payouts — without MOTDesk ever touching card numbers. It is the standard setup for marketplaces and booking platforms.
